Stars Add Blackburn on Defense

Jun 26, 2014

June 27, 2014 – The Stars today announced the signing of Brooks Blackburn (D) from the Allen Americans 18U program. Blackburn was the first local player signed this Spring. The 5'10", 190 lb defenseman from Midlothian, Texas patrolled the blueline for Midlothian High School and Allen's midget major team. While very strong defensively he also showed his offensive prowess by contributing 9G, 18A for 27 points in 32 games with Allen last season. Brooks logged 34 minutes in penalties for Allen.

Blackburn first caught the eye of Stars' GM Reggie Hall last summer during off season skates. After watching Brooks all season at the Midget and High School level, Hall selected Blackburn for TEAM TEXAS where he showed an even greater compete level at the Americas' High School Showcase in Pittsburgh this past April.

In May Blackburn skated in the Stars' Pre-Draft camp in Dallas and earned a spot on the Stars' roster with his intensity, strong skating ability and situational awareness. The Stars' coaching staff saw in Blackburn both a steady defender and a player with the capability to add offense from the blueline.

Welcome to the Stars Brooks.
