In what has become a very familiar story this summer, another Jr Stars' player has capitalized on his time in Dallas and will be moving to the NCAA for the 14/15 season. The Stars' announced today that veteran defenseman Jon Gibson has made a commitment to Daniel Webster College (NCAA, DIII) for the coming season. Gibson becomes the second Jr Stars player to make the move to DWC this off season and the sixth Stars' player to move to NCAA programs.
Gibson, a 6'2", 195 lb defender is a Michigan native and joined the Stars in October from the Philadelphia Revolution of the EHL after suffering a severe shoulder injury. Upon his arrival in Dallas Gibson went under the watchful eyes of the Stars' medical staff and began the process of rest and rehab on the shoulder. Rather than try to rush his return, the Stars took care to allow the shoulder to heal and in early November Jon got in his first game action in a Stars uniform. While it took a few games to knock the rust off, Gibson quickly became one of the most reliable defensemen on the Stars' blueline.
Jon appeared in 27 regular season games with the Stars and registered 9 assists and 79 minutes in penalties. In one of his most memorable games Gibson went toe-to-toe with Topeka's Georgy Ostapchup, a towering 6'5", 200 lb forward. The fight was a turning point in the Stars' season and set the stage for the Stars' upset of Topeka in the second round of the playoffs. Gibson appeared in all eight playoff games for the Stars and registered 1G, 1A, 2 points and was a +2.
Daniel Webster College is located in Nashua, NH and will play an independent schedule this season and has made application to become a member of the ECAC for the 2015/16 season.
