Topeka shrugs off penalties, upends Dallas, 6-2

The Dallas Jr. Stars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Topeka Capitals shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-2.

Topeka was paced by Georgy Ostapchuk, who had one goal and one assist. Ostapchuk scored 10:28 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Topeka. Jaydn Munnelly assisted on the tally.

The Capitals\’ offense rang up 35 shots on Dallas\’ net. Topeka was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Topeka additionally got points from Austin Petrie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Trenton Faber, who also had one goal and one assist, and Munnelly, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included Nolan Stanley and Connor Nichols, who scored one goal each. In addition, Topeka received assists from Nick Rizzo, Kole Hudson, Brandon Hawkins, and Benton Deanovich, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Stars were led by Alex MacInnis, who racked up one goal and one assist. MacInnis scored 3:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dallas. Tommy Stock picked up the assist. Dallas also got a goal from Stephen Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dallas were Blake McIntyre and Colin South, who each chipped in one.

Jude Hull recorded 21 saves for the Capitals. Topeka registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Link Ferch made 29 saves for Dallas on 35 shots. The Jr. Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
