xDallas survives xSugar Land comeback, wins 5-3

The xSugar Land Imperials tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the xDallas Jr. Stars would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

xDallas made the score 5-2 on a goal by Stephen Smith at 14 seconds in the third period, and xSugar Land got as close as 5-3 when Cole Sharrah scored 12:15 into the third period.

Corey Burns was all over the ice for the Jr. Stars, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Burns scored the first of his two goals at 14:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 xDallas. Tommy Stock picked up the assist. Burns\’ next tally made the score 4-2 xDallas with 49 seconds left in the second period. Alex Cyrenne provided the assist.

xDallas made Imperials\’ netminders to work without much rest, getting 47 shots and forcing 42 saves. Colton Anderson made 19 stops and Christopher Otap made 23. The defensemen of the Jr. Stars were also effective in the Imperials\’ zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for xDallas included Matt Zaragoza and Raurie Petrich, who scored one goal each. In addition, xDallas received assists from Cam Choate and Colin South, who each chipped in one and Jon Gibson and Jack Duhe, who contributed two a piece.

xSugar Land excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Imperials kept xDallas\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Link Ferch made 28 saves on 31 shots.

xSugar Land was led by Yves Bader, who tallied two goals. Bader scored the first of his two goals at 7:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 xDallas. Jonathon Benavides assisted on the tally. Bader\’s next tally made the score 3-2 xDallas with 3:40 left in the second period. The Imperials had taken the advantage when the Jr. Stars\’ Zaragoza got sent off for roughing. Matthew Winkle picked up the assist. More assists for xSugar Land came via Dylan Edwards, who had one.

xDallas incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. xSugar Land incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
