Dallas uses shootout to best Sugar Land, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dallas Jr. Stars defeated the Sugar Land Imperials in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout.

Dallas saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Jr. Stars made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tommy Stock at 11:21 in the second period. Sugar Land evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Aksel Campbell at 17:32 in the third period.

Dallas was led by Stock, who registered one goal and one assist.

The Jr. Stars forced the Imperials goalie Colton Anderson to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

Others who scored for Dallas included Alex Cyrenne and Stephen Smith, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dallas were Jon Gibson, who had two and Corey Burns and Alex MacInnis, who each chipped in one.

Sugar Land kept Dallas\’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Mallon made 40 saves on 43 shots. The Imperials struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Sugar Land was led by Yves Bader, who tallied one goal and two assists. Bader scored short handed 3:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dallas. The Imperials played down a man on Campbell\’s checking from behind. Jonathon Benavides assisted on the tally. Sugar Land also got a goal from Alex Tilman as well. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Travis Wilson and Wayne Hubley, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sugar Land\’s Anderson stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Imperials registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
