Dallas vanquishes Texas in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dallas Jr. Stars defeated the Texas Jr. Brahmas in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Texas\’ shootout goal was scored by Jon Grimm. In addition to the clincher, Dallas got a shootout goal from Tyler Valentin.

The Jr. Stars stifled the Jr. Brahmas\’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas was unable to stop Dallas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Stars eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Dallas was helped by Travis Hall, who grabbed one goal. Hall scored on the power play 9:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dallas. The Jr. Stars earned a power play opportunity when Anthony Koslow was put in the box for high sticking. Kody Wagner picked up the assist. Josig Rochon also scored for Dallas. In addition, Dallas received assists from Kayne Fedor, who had one.

The Jr. Brahmas forced Dallas goalie Chris Mallon to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Texas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Jr. Brahmas were led by Ryan Dunner, who finished with one goal and one assist. Dunner scored 3:02 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Mykyta Sheptytsky provided the assist. Texas also got a goal from Chase Deacon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Nitta, who had one.

Mallon recorded 39 saves for the Jr. Stars. Dallas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Texas\’ Joe Hacker stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Jr. Brahmas registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
