Euless split home series to Atlanta, turn attention to Spirit this weekend

Oct 18, 2016

Home ice was kind to the Jr. Stars last Friday as they defeated the Atlanta Capitals 7-5.  The two were neck and neck much of the game, tied at five a piece after two periods.  The Jr. Stars took advantage of their power play opportunities in the third, scoring two goals. Forward Tristan Wilson broke the game open in the third with his eighth goal of the season while Daniel Goodwin provided the nail in the coffin with 65 seconds left.

Saturday’s contest showcased a defensive showdown as the Capitals took game two of the series in OT, 3-2.  Both teams were tied at two heading at the end of regulation.  That changed when Atlanta forward Tristen Poliseno provided the game winning goal in overtime, his fourth of the season.  Goalie Maxwell Kerner shined for the Jr. Stars, saving 38 of 41 shots against, as they fell just short of the series sweep.

The Euless Jr. Stars will play host to the College Station Spirit this Friday, followed by a road game to College Station on Saturday.  The two teams will meet for the second and third time this season, the first matchup belonging to the Jr. Stars 6-5 back on Oct. 8.  Thomas Delaney and Fedor Kayne lead the way for the Jr. Stars.  The two have combined for 41 points in 13 games this season.  College Station Forward Denis Kusy is someone to keep an eye on for the Spirit.  The 19 year old leads the team in points this season (16).  Game-time for Friday’s matchup at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Euless is slated for 2:00 pm.  Puck drop for Saturday’s contest will be 7:30 pm at the Spirit Ice Arena in College Station.
