Stars Sign Defenseman Olson from CIHA

Jun 30, 2014

July 1, 2014 – The Stars continued to solidify their blueline for next season with the addition of Axel Olson (D) from the CIHA Voyageurs (Midget Major AAA). CIHA plays in the Ontario East Midget Hockey League (OEMHL).

Olson is a solid 6'1", 200 lb stay at home defender with a knack for making that good first pass out of his zone. Spotted at the Soo Pre-Draft Camp last month by Assistant Coach Aaron Corbiere, Axel was impressive with his defensive zone coverage and ability to quickly advance the puck up ice. Corbiere said, "Olson was a big, strong skater that made very few mistakes when he was on the ice. He isn't a flashy player, he just gets the job done."

Olson played 35 regular season games for the Voyageurs over the last two seasons with 4G, 3A, 7 points and 22 minutes in penalties. He is the second player the Stars have nabbed from CIHA as he joins teammate Josig Rochon in Dallas.

Welcome to Dallas Axel!
