The Weekend Preview: Battle of DFW

Oct 8, 2021

This weekend is the home opener for the Jr. Stars as they face off against the Texas Brahmas in the Battle of DFW as they make their way down the street to the Children’s Health StarCenter in Euless.

Texas Brahmas are entering the series on a three-game win streak after defeating the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks at home for their season opener, outscoring them 19-7 for the weekend.

Texas Brahmas have been the South Division champions for the past six seasons, and Head Coach Tom Train is not underestimating this challenge early in the season, “they are highly skilled, with great systems, and will be a tough test.”

Jr. Stars are 2-4-0-0 after taking two of three in Austin against the Ice Bats, where their offense hit their stride. Mid-Cities forward Ilnur Madiarov collected a hat trick in their game Friday night and collected a total of 8 points on the weekend. Ilnur’s efforts earned him the Bauer Hockey Star of the Week for the week ending on September 26th.

The Brahmas gained their own Bauer Hockey Star of the Week in forward Mason Mara, who won this past weekend by ending the series with five goals and six points.

“Staying disciplined, taking advantage of our opportunities” is what Coach Train is anticipating from his Mid-Cities squad as they look to extend their win streak to two games this Friday night.

Saturday’s game has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. The game Monday at NYTEX Sports Center is still scheduled as planned for 2:15 p.m.
