Weekend Recap: Jr. Star Star New Year With Sweep

Jan 11, 2016

Euless Jr. Stars 6, Louisiana Drillers 2

The Jr. Stars got 2016 started on the right foot but it took them a couple periods to shake off the rust Saturday afternoon against the Drillers in Louisiana.

Kyle Dudley (Ian Linna, Aaron Wade) got the scoring off first for the Jr. Stars on a power play just 6:18 into the game but the Drillers added two of their own and took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.  That’s when forward Triston Wilson and company took matters into their own hands, scoring five goals in the final frame to win 6-2.  Wilson scored a hat trick in the 3rd with assists from Wyatt Gentry, Benjamin Kraus (2), Brandon Wade, Kayne Fedor and Joshua Beatty.  Anthony Chavez (Axel Olson) and Ian Linna (Gentry) also scored in the final period.

Beatty got the win in net for the Jr. Stars and was awarded 1st Star of the Game with his 29/31 saves and one assist.

Euless Jr. Stars 4, Louisiana Drillers 3

The two teams were back at it bright and early Sunday morning.  The first period held the most action with both teams scoring twice, Fedor (Chavez) and Brandon Wade (Kraus, Fedor) both scoring for the Jr. Stars.

Nick Snyder scored unassisted in the second while short handed to give Euless a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd and Gentry made it 4-2 on a power play with assists from Fedor and Brandon Wade.  Louisiana made it interesting with 9:16 left to play, closing the gap to 4-3 but it wouldn’t be enough as the Jr. Stars completed the sweep in Louisiana.

Thomas Bailey got the call in net, saving 27/30 shots in the game.

Euless has the weekend off before returning home for a five-game homestand on Friday, January 22nd.
